DOGBREEDS
Brittany Spaniel
The Breton is an excellent bird dog made for hunting.
Keywords to describe a Breton are teachable, friendly, alert, robust, social, adaptable, intelligent, and attentive.
These qualities are great, but you should be aware of the following. We are hunting dogs. If you have other intentions than to bring us to hunting, you should look for another breed.
If you hunt birds, on the other hand, we will be the perfect companion for you. The Breton belongs to the group «standing bird dogs». We are suitable for all types of bird hunting!
A walk around the block is not enough
A prerequisite for owning a Breton is that you like long walks in nature. Bretons have large amounts of energy and a high activity drive.
A short walk around the block is not enough to meet our needs. When hunting, we get an outlet for all our energy. When we are not hunting, we like to run around as if we are.
We need long walks outdoors with the opportunity to run freely. When stimulated right, you will get a pleasant, friendly, and docile family dog!
Barking tendencies
Like most dog breeds, we can bark when we have something on our minds. How much we bark varies between individuals, and several different factors come into play.
For example, we may bark if we are left alone for hours or when we are anxious or agitated.
With consistent training, it is possible to keep barking to a minimum. However, you should not expect to have an overall quiet dog.
Children and other animals
Usually, it's not a problem to keep us amongst children because we are naturally friendly. For the youngest children, we can appear a little intense due to our energy drive. Never leave a toddler alone with the dog.
Bretons get along well with other dogs and even cats. But It will be advantageous to socialize us from an early age.
Healthy breed
Bretons are healthy dogs without significant health challenges. However, various health implications can arise for some of us. The most common condition that affects us is hip dysplasia. Healthy individuals have a life expectancy of 12-14 years.
Size/appearance
