DOGBREEDS
Samoyed
White, elegant, robust, calm, friendly, social, attentive, and persevering are words that in all modesty describe the Samoyed dogs.
They are easily recognized as family members of the "Spitz" dogs by their pointy ears and curly tail. For many years the breed was used in Siberia by indigenous tribes.
Samoyeds are suitable for hunting, herding and trekking. Their owners also used them as radiators on cold Siberian nights.
Great family dog, as long as these criteria are met
They are no longer used for hunting, but there remains a hunting instinct in some individuals. If you own a Samoyed, chances are it will run after animals as soon as they get the chance. Also, pay attention to their skillful digging - a Samoyed tends to dig itself out of fenced gardens.
This breed is not a dog for sofa fanatics. The Samoyed can appreciate indoor relaxation, but first and foremost, they want to be outdoors. In the absence of physical stimuli, the Samoyed can be difficult to deal with.
When provided with sufficient stimuli, both mentally and physically, they become gentle and excellent family dogs.
The Samoyed is usually not afraid or aggressive. Strangers are usually met with the so-called Samoyed smile, which comes from the breed's drawn-up mouth corners.
As with most other working dogs, they have strong self-will. If it does not want to sit down on command, chances are it won't.
The Samoyed requires determined but loving owners, with a good dose of patience.
Above all, a Samoyed will be the happiest around its people, so make sure you do not leave it alone for too long.
Samoyeds like to pull and carry
A Samoyed will find great pleasure in wearing a hoof or pulling a sled. Thanks to their thick fur, they are perfect for an extreme and cold climate. Are you going on a hike in minus 30 celsius? No problem, the Samoyed will be thriving.
On the other hand, the hottest summer days can be challenging. Make sure to give them access to shade and cold freshwater.
The coat is actually so thick that it can be difficult to spot the skin during the winter months. When spring arrives, the breed sheds a lot. Keep the hoover close at all times.
Fun fact: The Samoyed coat is perfect for weaving and knitting clothes.
